Mariah Peterson, Attorney
Mariah was born and raised in Minnesota. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a first-generation student and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and a Certificate in Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies. Mariah earned her juris doctorate from Seattle University School of Law in 2024. Mariah’s first legal intern position was with the Moderate Means Program, where she learned so much about legal work and how to better serve clients. During law school, Mariah interned at Mid Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA), where she worked in their Pro Bono Unit. At MMLA, she primarily focused on a Special Education Law Practice Guide for internal use and facilitated the Senior Wills Clinic. She also worked at the National Center for Youth Law, specifically working on legal financial obligations in Nebraska and Wisconsin. During law school, Mariah earned enough pro bono hours to be awarded the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) 2023 Pro Bono Honor Roll. She was also a Senior Editor of the American Indian Law Journal.
She chose to attend law school to help empower individuals whose rights are generally restricted either by the legal system as a whole or by individual people. Since attending law school, this remains her primary goal in supporting youth and children here at LCYC.
